¡Lo Mejor Está Por Venir!

¡Todavía no puedo creer que el Día de  Acción de Gracias haya venido y se haya ido y la Navidad está casi aquí - otra vez! Yo solía rascarme la  cabeza y mirar a mis padres con recelo cuando oía que ellos decían cosas como “el tiempo pasa volando” y “los días pasan tan a la carrera”.  Pero entre más envejezco yo y entre más rápido pasan los días, lo entiendo más.
Una cosa que siempre he disfrutado hacer entre la temporada del Día de Acción de Gracias y la Navidad  es hacer una lista personal de cosas por  las que estoy agradecida, añadiendo al menos una cosa cada día cuando dedico mi tiempo a la oración y al estudio bíblico.   Pero siempre anteriormente, me he concentrado en estar agradecida por cosas en el pasado o aún en  el presente. Pero este año intentaré  algo nuevo. Ya sé muchas de las  maravillosas bendiciones que Dios me ha dado durante los años/décadas, pero y ¿que de aquellas que espero que están por venir?
Sin Jesús, la gente cínica dice cosas, “La vida no sirve para nada…y entonces te mueres.” ¡Qué punto de vista tan triste! Por supuesto, sin Cristo la declaración es verdadera. Una vez oí que alguien decía, “Para los  incrédulos, cualquier cosa que les pasa aquí en la tierra, eso es lo mejor que ellos jamás tendrán.  Para aquellos de nosotros que conocemos a Jesús como Señor y Salvador, independientemente de lo que pasa aquí en la tierra  es lo peor que  tendremos alguna vez”. ¿Traducción? Tenemos mucho más que está por venir, más bendiciones para estar  agradecidos en el futuro, más  de lo  que podríamos comenzar alguna vez a poner en una lista del tiempo pasado o presente. De hecho, la Biblia dice las bendiciones que Dios tiene para nosotros son tan grandes e inmensurables que no podemos comenzar hasta a entenderlas o imaginarlas.
¿Pero aun si no hacemos ni un minúsculo avance en aquella lista infinita de bendiciones, por qué no unirse  conmigo y hacer una lista de  todos modos? Podemos comenzar hoy, apuntando  muchas de las bendiciones prometidas en las que podemos pensar cuando pensamos con mucha ilusión en ese día cuando veremos finalmente a nuestro querido  Salvador cara a cara. Estar en Su presencia sin duda estará en lo alto de nuestra lista de bendiciones esperadas, pero hay muchas otras cosas también — no más enfermedad o muerte; no más lagrimas  o sufrimiento; no más pecado o maldad; pasando el tiempo con  “nuestra familia eterna” y ni mencionemos las legiones de ángeles… la lista  es interminable. ¡Entonces alégrense, mis queridos amigos, porque  realmente lo mejor está por venir!

I still can’t believe that Thanksgiving has come and gone and Christmas is nearly here—again! I used to scratch my head and look askance at my parents (and other “old people”) when I heard them say things like “time sure flies” and “the days are zipping by way too fast.” But the older I get and the more days zip by, the more I understand.
One thing I’ve always enjoyed doing during this season between Thanksgiving and Christmas is to make a personal list of things I’m thankful for, adding at least one thing each day when I have my prayer and Bible study time. But always before, I’ve focused on being grateful for things in the past or even the present. This year I’m trying something new. I already know the many wonderful blessings God has given me over the years/decades, but what about those I anticipate in the future?
Without Jesus, cynical people say things, “Life stinks…and then you die.” What a sad viewpoint! Of course, without Christ the statement is true. I once heard someone say, “For unbelievers, whatever happens to them on earth is the best they’ll ever have. For those of us who know Jesus as Lord and Savior, whatever happens here is the worst we’ll ever have.” Translation? We have more to look forward to, more blessings to be thankful for in the future, than we could ever begin to list from the past or present. In fact, the Bible says the blessings that God has for us are so great and immeasurable that we can’t even begin to comprehend or imagine them.
But even if we don’t make a dent in that infinite list of blessings, why not join me in making one anyway? We can start today, jotting down as many of the promised blessings we can think of as we look forward to that day when we will finally see our beloved Savior face-to-face. Being in His presence will no doubt be at the top of our anticipated blessings list, but there are many other things too—no more sickness or death; no more tears or sorrow; no more sin or evil; hanging out with our “forever family,” not to mention legions of angels…the list is endless. So rejoice, beloved, for truly the best is yet to be!
